This can be one of the best and most exciting parts of your wedding if you follow my suggestions. If you heed my suggestions, this will be a fun experience.
Make a budget for your dress but don’t forget to add the cost of alterations, shipping, steaming, sales tax, under garments, shoes, jewelry and veil. Remember you are going for the total look and that includes a lot more than just the dress.
Start looking in bridal magazines and on line for bridal gown ideas and designers. Make a picture file of the styles, shapes and designers you like and be sure to take the file with you when you go shopping.
Eat breakfast before you go shopping. You need to be energized or your shopping experience it may become frustrating and overwhelming. No one wants to have a bad day shopping for their dream gown.
Limit your posse to two people. I suggest your mother and a trusted friend. More than two people giving their opinions can be very confusing.
Be open minded when you get to the salon and let the wedding gown experts make suggestions for your body type. Be sure to tell the salon, the location and time of your wedding as it may play a part in deciding the material and style of your gown.
Pick a gown that is the right color for your skin tone and one that reflects your personality. Take a pair of shoes with you that are the heel height you will wear when you walk down the aisle and try the dress on with these shoes.
Pick the right undergarments for the gown. The dress salon can make suggestions but be sure to try the gown on with the undergarments before you make your final decision.
If you are well prepared for your shopping experience, you will know when you have found “the one” and you will be glowing.

Are you having trouble deciding on your wedding color palette? It is one of the toughest decisions unless you follow my guidelines.
First, what is your favorite color palette or what colors do you look best wearing? If you are not sure, go to your closet and see what colors jump out at you and that is the color palette you are comfortable wearing. More than likely these colors are the best for your skin tone because you look beautiful wearing them and you receive lots of compliments when you do wear them. Also, look at the colors that inspire your home décor. These colors are the ones you know you can live with for a long time and they will stand the test of time. Now, put your preliminary wedding palette together.
To give you more confidence in your color scheme, look to the color wheel. Colors that are opposite like blue and orange go well together because one is cool and one is warm. Also, neighboring colors like fuchsia and pale pink work well together because they are similar and they share a primary color. One way to build to color palette is to put a vibrant, saturated color with a neutral like red and gray.
Next, go to your local paint store and pick up some color swatches to match your favorite palette and take these swatches to your venue. Make sure your colors will work with your venue or you will have to pay extra to cover up the venue’s distractions. It is best to work with what the venue offers and make slight adjustments to your palette so as to enhance the venue. If your wedding is in the evening and the venue’s carpet design is not your favorite, don’t be too concerned because it will not be prominent in a candle-lit room.
Let the mood for your wedding by picking the right color hues. If you want more drama, pick more vibrant hues of your palette. If you want a more relaxed atmosphere pick softer shades from your palette. What style do you want to create and that will help you pick the best hues.
You can let the season of your wedding play a role in the shades of your color scheme. Pastels for spring, vibrant colors for summer, jeweled tones for fall and metallic for winter. Or you can recognize the season with texture and accent colors.
Don’t get too caught up in your color scheme. Think of your color in coordination with your wedding style, formality, mood, and culture. If you really like the color scheme, you will feel beautiful and relaxed on your big day.

Who toasts and when
The night before the wedding is open-mic night for sorority sisters, fraternity brothers, friends, and relatives to speak and tell stories. The wedding reception is more formal, larger and much more diverse and only the VIPs speak. The VIPs are the Father of the Bride, Best Man, Maid of Honor and Groom and they speak in that order.
Don’t wing it
Prepare a speech with a beginning, middle and end and practice it. If you are prepared you will not ramble and you will be much more confident in presenting your speech.
Make it short and sweet
You should aim for three to five minutes at the most. Guests won’t listen well to anything longer.
Limit the Storytelling
Many of the guests did not go to school with the bride or the groom. Only tell a story if the majority of the audience can relate to it.
Engage the audience
Get the attention of the guests by saying, “You all know what I am talking about” or asking, “Am I right?”
Talk about the Couple
If you are the Best Man and the groom is your focus, be sure to include a story about the bride and the couple. The Maid of Honor’s speech should be about the bride but be sure to include the groom and something romantic about the couple too.
